Fox Hunting

John Jeanneney with Gerte, standard wirehaired teckel, who found a wounded deer and bayed two foxes on one day.

An experienced dachshund with the correct conformation, and gameness, can bolt a fox from an underground den. Smaller dachshunds can locate and bay a fox; a larger dachshund can fight the fox harder underground.

Dachshunds can be taught to trail and tree raccoons and opossum at night, as well as squirrels by day.

Dachshunds will trail and flush pheasants and other game birds. In reasonable circumstances they will retrieve shot waterfowl.

Teddy Moritz with a mini wire and lurcher, hunting partners who got a chuck and a coon.
